The comedy world lost a great mind with the passing of George Carlin yesterday. I have been a fan of his for as long as I can remember. I have seen him live and on the tube. I have bought his comedy albums and his books. I had a shirt form his "Playing with Your Head" tour, which had a picture of him on the front and on the back it read "Simon Says Go F*k yourself". I loved that shirt. I found his take on politics, religion, men and women, and society in general to be hysterical and spot-on.
His last book "When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?" hit stores last year just before the holidays. So, being the personable soul that he was, he included this holiday message in the beginning. Since this book comes out in the fall, I'd like to take advantage of this early opportunity to wish all of you an enjoyable Christmas season and a happy New Year filled with good fortune. Of course, I realize this can't happen for everyone. Some of you are going to die next year, and others will be crippled and maimed in accidents, perhaps even completely paralyzed. Still others will be stricken with diseases that can't be cured, or will be horribly scarred in fires. And let's not forget the robberies and rapes - there'll be lots of them. Therefore, many of you will not get to enjoy the happy and fortunate New Year I'm wishing for you. So just try to do the best you can. - George Carlin
Well, how ironic is that? I guess karma is a bitch after all. I take refuge in the fact that; if there is an after-life there will be some kick ass music and the kind of comedy that renders your lungs useless. So, good bye George; you will be dearly missed.
By the way; my favorite G.C. quote is "those who dance are thought to be insane by those who can't hear the music". What's yours?
