This evening, the major topic for discussion was the disbanding of the Buckethead Show. Soon...the conversation turned to all of the local organizations that the BS has helped and that would lose that now. However we, as the good Rockoholics that we are, came up with a plan...we will do this on our own. We realized the sad fact that it usually does take a media group bringing something into the limelight before anyone wants to help. So, the Rockoholics will play the role of the media group. As I am typing this, we have people tracking down and cultivating a list of charitable organizations for us to work with...others are looking for possible locations for "charity" picnics and such...and everyone else is just coming up with ideas of other things to do... But...for this to work, we need everyone's help. We will be working with 98 Rock to try and get some t-shirts for people to wear to these events to let everyone know who we are. Let's pull together and support our community without expecting 98 Rock to lead us there...let us lead the way!!! |

Its always nice to see people looking out for one another, unfortunately that's not something you hear about all the time. It still happens but most people don't typically go out of their way to find charitable causes to take part in or contribute to. Its not uncommon and it doesn't make you a bad person, its human nature to worry about yourself first. One of the things we discussed in the chat room tonight was how the BS morning show crew did a lot of charitable events in the community and now that their gone who was going to continue on where they left off. The answer to that question was pretty easy, us. This is a good way for us rock-o-holics to get out there have some fun and do some good in the community and its only going to cost you one weekend day a month (12 days a year) As well as doing a solid for a good cause which can be rewarding on its own, we could also get the word out about 98 rock and the 98 rock website. So anyone with ideas for charitable causes or locations or anything like that respond to one of these blogs or posts. A few of us are already researching as we speak. Help us get this thing going! |

*re-post* from the kage kult leg of this thread... I have been in touch w/ Habitat for Humanity. Trying to set up a Kage Kult/98Rock-o-holics build weekend. Where on a saturday we go out and help build houses for people less fortunate.
On a side note...the fact that ya'll want to step up and help those in need shows the true quality of your character!
Keep kickin' ASS!

Jesse...that sounds awesome. I have emailed a lot of the local charities and am waiting on resposes as to how we can help. I have already heard back from Will Carey at Tampa Bay Harvest. The next step is to start looking for locations to hold events around the Tampa Bay Area. If anyone is part of, or good friends with, a local band...these events would be a good opportunity for them to volunteer some time to play and get noticed. I am currently looking into possible locations and what, if any, permits we will need to hold events at these locations and possibly provide live music. I will update you all soon. Thank you for the great response we have gotten on this topic!!! |
